I have measured out my life with coffee spoons. ~T.S. Eliot
It’s been a culinary weekend. Maybe it’s just avoiding actual homework, but I’ve actually found time to cook, bike, blog, and take photos this weekend, which hasn’t happened in ages!
Today’s adventure in the kitchen came courtesy of my new obsession, Mr. GreenBeans, a local DIY coffee-roasting, cheese-making, canning and preserving store on the amazing Mississippi Ave.
The idea is: most of the coffee that you buy in stores was stale long before it even made it to the that shelf down aisle 3. So at Mr. GreenBeans you buy your own beans…green, and roast them yourself at home! Coffee + culinary experimentation, what could be better?
We’ve yet to actually taste-test the coffee we roasted, but after tossing the beans in a pan until they popped like popcorn and turned a warm brown, I think our experiment has been a success! Oddly, roasting your own coffee smells more like popcorn than espresso, and combined with the chicken in the oven, our house now somehow smells like a great Iranian meal.
Tomorrow morning: another monday, the start of a very busy week, and the verdict on our DIY roasting !
Over second and third cups flow matters of high finance, high state, common gossip and low comedy. [Coffee] is a social binder, a warmer of tongues, a soberer of minds, a stimulant of wit, a foiler of sleep if you want it so. From roadside mugs to the classic demi-tasse, it is the perfect democrat. ~Author Unknown
